We’re well into week two of the new school year!  Sixth graders are getting used to their new school and all that comes with being in middle school – changing classes, bells, lockers,  free seating at lunch, many different teachers, and so much more.   They are doing an amazing job adjusting!

In language arts, we have been working on getting to know each other and establishing some routines and procedures as well as launching reading and writing workshops.  We’re concentrating on getting “just right books” to read and tracking our reading using Vision and Google Chrome.  We’ve done some reflection and filled out surveys about what kind of readers we are and what kind of people we are.

Choose a Just Right Book

As part of goal setting, we’ve made some Big Plans!  Later this week and next week we’ll talk about reading and writing goals, why they’re important and  how to set them so that they can be achieved. Goal setting is key to achievement.

Big Plans

Students, the BIG PLANS you made are BIG 🙂 Start thinking about some short term goals you have for reading and writing.  If you read 20 books last year, maybe one of your reading goals could be to increase that number.  Stretch yourself, but be realistic.  We’ll set writing goals, too!
